Mozambique CAP Implementation
10 Jun 2024
Intertek Government and Trades Services officially signed a Pre-Shipment Verification of Conformity contract referred to as a Conformity Assessment Program (CAP) with the Instituto Nacional de Normalização e Qualidade – Instituto Público (INNOQ) of Mozambique. Intertek has been appointed, on a sole mandate basis, by INNOQ, to issue Certificates of Conformity (CoCs) for regulated products imported into Mozambique from all countries of supply.
The National Inspectorate of Economic Activities (Inspecção Nacional das Actividades Económicas - INAE) has the mandate to supervise economic activities in Mozambique. This includes ensuring that products in the marketplace are not counterfeit and do not pose a risk to the well-being of consumers and the environment. INNOQ, IP in coordination with INAE, urges Exporters to approach Intertek to have their products verified to Mozambican/International Standard requirements before scheduling their shipments to Mozambique. As of the 1st July 2024 INAE will be performing market monitoring to assess compliance with the Conformity Assessment Programme.
Please refer to INNOQ’s communication on their website: Programa de Avaliação da Conformidade (PAC) | Instituto Nacional de Normalização e Qualidade (innoq.gov.mz) and also, on Intertek’s website.
The Mozambique CAP is operated by Intertek on behalf of INNOQ, IP for all the regulated products as per Ministerial Diploma 29/2024 of the 20th May.
Regulated Products shipments must be issued with a Certificate of Conformity (CoC) by Intertek, which ensures that specific products meet the requirements of the technical regulations and standards as determined by INNOQ. The Mozambican Standards applicable to products with mandatory control can be purchased at INNOQ, IP. Exporters engaged in trade with Mozambique need to be aware of the requirements of the Mozambique CAP and are encouraged to contact their local Intertek Offices to find out how Intertek can assist them in obtaining the mandatory CoC.
