Intertek Canada helps raise funds to end childhood cancer

This summer, Intertek employees from Mississauga, Ontario participated in a volleyball tournament hosted by Heatwave Events to benefit The Hospital for Sick Children (also known as SickKids). SickKids is a major paediatric centre for the Greater Toronto Area, serving patients up to age 18. Affiliated with the University of Toronto, it is Canada's most research-intensive hospital and the largest child health research institute in the country.

For the past 20 years, Heatwave has been coming together with corporations, volunteers, donors, and sponsors to raise funds for children who are fighting cancer. This year's Corporate Challenge Event set the record for the largest beach volleyball tournament in the world, hosting 250 teams.

The event consisted of five games of round-robin, where the first team to score 25 points (or the winner after 15 minutes of play) receives one point. Although our Mississauga 'Bump N Sets' team didn't make the play-off round, congratulations are in order for their efforts, team spirit and a very close last game!

Over $1,200 was raised by our Mississauga employees for this great cause and, with contributions from other businesses and sponsors, more than $400,000 was raised for SickKids Hospital care and research facilities.

"There are thousands of children in treatment right now at SickKids, and with everyone's support we are able to make a difference to so many lives," said Victoria Almeida, HR Co-ordinator at Intertek in Canada. "This event really brought our whole office together. We look forward to participating again next year and helping The SickKids Foundation achieve its vision of 'Healthier Children. A Better World.'"
