Kevin Scaife, B.Sc., Scientific Consultant 2, Safety & Regulatory Affairs, Food & Nutrition Group
Kevin Scaife is a toxicologist in the Food and Nutrition group and has been with Intertek Health Sciences Inc. since 2018. He is actively involved in the preparation of successful regulatory submissions for food ingredients across multiple global jurisdictions and is also involved in the conduct of risk assessments for consumer products. Kevin has been a key player in developing a systematic approach for safety evaluations and characterization of products produced via modern biotechnology using in silico methods. Kevin has attended and presented research at various scientific conferences including the Society for Risk Analysis and Society of Toxicology annual meetings. In addition, Kevin has published research activities related to in silico safety evaluations of single-cell protein ingredients and the assessment of allergenicity of complex proteinaceous ingredients.
Kevin graduated from the Toxicology program at the University of Guelph, during which he had the opportunity to conduct research under Dr. Cynthia Scott-Dupree, focusing on the phenology and distribution of the Brown Marmorated Stink Bug (Halyomorpha halys), an invasive pest in southern Ontario, and to conduct toxicology bioassays using conventional and alternative insecticides. Kevin has since completed a Master of Science in Biotechnology with a specialization in bioinformatics at the University of Maryland Global Campus. During this graduate program, Kevin developed competency handling large genetic datasets using relevant programming languages (e.g., Python, SQL, and Java). In addition, Kevin completed a capstone project in which he developed an application to review and organize data systematically by incorporating existing repositories of ontologies.
