AAMA 515: Voluntary Procedure for Determination of Fenestration Surface Temperatures by THERM Finite Element Modeling
Standard: AAMA 515 – Voluntary Procedure for Determination of Fenestration Surface Temperatures by THERM Finite Element Modeling
Scope: Voluntary Procedure for Determination of Fenestration Surface Temperatures by THERM Finite Element Modeling
Applicable Products: non-residential windows, terrace and patio doors, curtain wall, storefront, and entrances, job-specific fenestration installations
Test Procedure: This procedure utilizes two-dimensional finite element (FE) computer simulation software (THERM) to create a uniform method of evaluation to determine and predict interior surface temperatures and surface condensation potential for in-situ fenestration constructions.
End Result: Targeted areas and points of interest are identified at a cross-sectional level to demonstrate the surface temperature and condensation risk. This FE method may be required by building owners, architects, consultants, etc. in the pre-construction phase of a specific project. This method can be used as a comparison tool against costly large-scale physical mock-up testing and can return quicker results and allow for design modifications.
