 Z240.0.2-14 - General requirements for recreational vehicles

This Standard specifies dimensional and safety requirements for recreational vehicles. Its purpose is to specify minimum criteria for providing a degree of protection against loss of life from fire and explosion.

The CSA Z240 RV Series of Standards does not apply to park model trailers (see CAN/CSA-Z241).

Z240.1.2-14-Vehicular requirements for recreational vehicles

This Standard includes performance tests for the following:

  1. coupling strength;
  2. photometric and mechanical performance of lighting equipment;
  3. optical and strength properties of glazing material; and
  4. service brake performance.

Cargo transportation space that is an integral part of a recreational vehicle and intended for transporting or storing livestock, vehicles (including motorcycles), snow machines, or watercraft is not prohibited by this Standard.

This Standard does not apply to 6 or 12 V battery-operated vehicular lighting and brake wiring systems specified in CSA Z240.1.2, provided that the conductors of such a system are not or cannot come in contact with the conductors of the higher voltage system.

The requirements of this Standard are based on the Canadian Electrical Code, Part I.
