Honey is valued by consumers around the world as a high-quality natural product that uniquely reflects the environment it’s produced in. However, honey is one of the most frequently adulterated food products worldwide. HoneyTrace is a block-chain based traceability solution that combines our years of industry expertise to track honey from hive to jar.

End-to-end traceability for the honey industry

Ensuring the quality and authenticity of honey is a growing challenge for the global food industry. Non-authentic honey regularly appears throughout the supply chain due to blending low-quality batches or the addition of additives such as syrups, colours, and flavours. Our HoneyTrace platform provides visibility at each step in your supply chain, so you have confidence in your products’ origin, safety, and compliance.

Using a traceability platform to combat authenticity issues

HoneyTrace is a powerful addition to your authenticity risk management toolkit. With data available 24/7 you can monitor all aspects of your global supply chain, from GPS beekeeper verification to storing laboratory test results and tracking the blending of batches.

How does it benefit me?

  • Beekeepers – Verify your identity, location, and hives. Become a trusted supplier worldwide.
  • Exporters – Combine testing and traceability to manage the authenticity risk of the honey you are purchasing and track the blending of batches.
  • Importers – Manage risk by checking the authenticity of batches before importing them and manage your suppliers.
  • Packers and retailers – Visualise the full honey journey from hive to jar for confidence in your products and build consumer trust.

Changes to the EU Breakfast Directives makes the traceability of honey of paramount importance. New labelling rules have been agreed to help consumers make informed choices about the products they buy, including information on the origin of the product. For honey, this is in the form of mandatory origin labelling, with countries of origin appearing in descending order along with their percentage share. There is flexibility for Member States to only require the four largest shares of the blend when they account for more than 50% of the total blend.

The HoneyTrace platform ensures that only the appropriate data is available for each stakeholder and within their own supply chain. This avoids revealing confidential supply chain information. There are three views available depending on your plan and position in the supply chain: Data contributor, Traceability Insights, and Control Tower. Each of these views are tailored to provide the information and insights you need to make decisions and manage suppliers.

HoneyTrace is built to serve all stakeholders in the honey supply chain, from beekeepers to exporters, importers, and packers. We designed the system to include the full supply chain to allow for visibility at each step, benefitting each stakeholder from hive to jar.

There is no obligation for anyone in your supply chain to purchase a HoneyTrace Insights or Control Tower licence to add data to the platform. Any stakeholders throughout the supply chain can be ‘Data contributors’ which is free of charge.
