Cargo Scanning operations in Guinea

The Intertek Cargo Scanning Solutions facility located at the Port of Conakry in Guinea has now commenced full operations.
Following a tender award at the end of 2005, the Guinean Ministries of Transport and Finance signed a contract with Intertek International Ltd to install and operate a cargo scanner at the Port of Conakry. Intertek have recruited 30 local staff to run two operational shifts per day.
The facility uses a state of the art X ray scanner, supplied by Nuctech, China. The scanner will help the Guinean Transport and Finance Ministries to enhance container security, and to detect contraband. It will also support Guinean compliance to the International Ship and Port Security (ISPS) Code.
The Intertek service has included full training provided to Guinean Customs Officers, to help in the interpretation of scanned images. The contract will run for ten years
Scanning charges are paid for freight operators – there is no cost to the Government of Guinea.
