Intertek supports earthquake relief efforts in China
02 Jun 2008
Intertek, a leading global provider of quality and safety solutions worldwide, and its staff today announced that they are donating in excess of RMB 1 million to support relief efforts and victims of the earthquake in Sichuan, China.
The financial donation will be split between Unicef, Red Cross and Red Crescent charities. Intertek is matching donations of its employees in more than 110 countries in which the company operates.
While Intertek’s operations in China were not immediately impacted by the earthquake, employees in the country have contributed strongly and swiftly to the company’s global appeal and donation. Intertek was the first foreign-listed testing service company to set up a joint venture in China as early as 1989, and has laboratories and offices in more than 20 cities across China. The company employs more than 5,000 people in the country - almost a quarter of its global workforce.
Worldwide, Intertek employees have made contributions through different initiatives and means to support the earthquake relief, and donations continue to be received.
Intertek Chief Executive Wolfhart Hauser said:
"On behalf of Intertek’s 21,000 employees around the world, I extend our condolences and deepest sympathy to those impacted by this devastating tragedy. While money can not ease the pain of the loss of lives, we are proud of the strong and heart felt response of our people worldwide and their compassion for those in need at this challenging time”.
