Intertek announces new Chairman

Intertek Group plc (Intertek) announces that David Reid will be appointed as Chairman of the Board of Intertek when the current Chairman, Vanni Treves, retires on 1 January 2012 after 10 years in the post.
David Reid, who is currently Chairman at Tesco Plc, will join the Board as a Non-Executive Director with effect from 1 December 2011.
Upon joining Intertek's Board, David will chair the Nomination Committee.

1. David Reid
David Reid, 64, is the Senior Independent Non-Executive Director of Reed Elsevier PLC. He will retire from his role at Tesco in November 2011. He was formerly Chairman of Kwik-Fit Group Ltd, Non-Executive Director at Greenalls Group plc (now De Vere Group), Legal & General Group Plc and Westbury plc.
David Reid started his career as an accountant, joining KPMG as an auditor in 1970. He held senior roles in auditing, financial analysis and was divisional chief accountant at Philips Electronics from 1973 until 1979. He joined British American Tobacco as Group Financial Controller of its retail division and later was Finance Director of International Stores Ltd.
He joined the Board of Tesco Plc in 1985 and was Finance Director from 1985 to 1997, when he led finance, distribution and IT. From 1996 to 2003 he was Executive Deputy Chairman responsible for international operations, business development and strategic planning, leading the start up and development of the Group's business in Central Europe, lreland and Asia. After the end of a successful career as a Tesco executive, he became Chairman in March 2004.
David has held a number of charitable and public roles including the Presidency of the Institute of Grocery Distribution and of the Royal Highland Show. He is currently Chairman of the Whizz-Kidz charity, a strategic adviser to Restless Development (previously Students Partnership Worldwide), and a member of the FTSE 100 Mentoring Panel for women. He is Chairman of the Seoul International Business Advisory Council and in November 2010 was appointed one of Prime Minister David Cameron's Business Ambassadors.
David was born in Zambia, is a Scottish Chartered Accountant and holds honorary degrees at Aberdeen and Robert Gordon Universities. He lives in Essex with his wife Prue.
2. Vanni Treves
Vanni Treves, 70, is a corporate lawyer and was a Partner of a major London firm of Solicitors, Macfarlanes, for 30 years, (during twelve of which he was Senior Partner). He has been Chairman of three listed companies, Channel Four Television, London Business School and Equitable Life Assurance Society. He is currently Chairman of the National College for Leadership and of Korn Ferry/Whitehead Mann, a Director of Amplifon S.p.A. (an Italian public company) and a Trustee of the J Paul Getty Jr Charitable Trust.
3. Other information
Under paragraph LR 9.6.13 R of the UK Listing Rules, the Company is not required to make any further disclosures in respect of David Reid.
