Intertek Expands with New Furniture Testing Facility in France

Intertek, a leading provider of quality and safety services to a wide range of industries around the world, has expanded its services in Europe with a new furniture testing laboratory. Located in the North of France, Intertek’s facility at Villeneuve d’Ascq, is strategically situated to support major furniture distribution activities in the European region.

Karine Sicaud, Consumer Goods Manager for France, said “We established the new furniture laboratory in response to a growing customer need for testing and support in the European region. The laboratory will leverage Intertek's wide range of expertise and capabilities, providing an extended offering of valuable services for customers within Europe. The facility complements our existing network in Asia and supports clients who require technical support in the region.”

The laboratory offers a wide range of cost- and time-efficient tests for many product categories, including:

• Furniture
• Garden furniture
• Kitchen furniture
• Bathroom furniture
• Upholstery
• Bedding

The laboratory tests a range of different furniture items, including kits as well as pre-assembled furniture, pieces for both domestic and global distribution and camping furniture. The new Intertek laboratory conducts the following testing:

• Safety tests according to safety standards such as EN 14749, NF 60-300-1-2-3D, EN 581-1-2-3, and more 
• Performance tests such as fatigue tests, mechanical tests and impact tests, and more 
• Chemical tests on materials used

Intertek’s new location delivers enhanced expert services combined with rapid project turnaround time. Intertek Consumer Goods France provides manufacturers, retailers, importers and distributors in-depth evaluation services including but not limited to:

• Product qualification – Lab testing, inspection, consumer panel product testing
• Suppliers’ qualification – CSR audit, quality audit
