First laboratory in China offering battery pack-level verification testing site
SHANGHAI, CHINA – Intertek, a leading provider of quality and safety solutions, today announced the establishment of its electric vehicle laboratory in Shanghai to address the rapid expansion of electric vehicles (EV) in this region. Our June 28th opening marks a breakthrough in EV testing benefiting customers with local customized services and technical support, as manufacturers look to provide a more energy efficient and environmentally friendly alternative for the future of the automotive industry.
The need for testing and certification services for this industry has grown rapidly over the past several years as a result of China’s efforts with the “12th Five-Year Plan” – a country-wide adopted time period where the region will implement a "pure electric drive" technology development transition strategy, focusing on technology breakthroughs in electric vehicle batteries, motors and electronic control systems, as well as working to reduce commercialization bottlenecks of electric vehicles.
Leveraging its global resources, Intertek North America's technical experts and the Shanghai team collaborated in the design, equipment selection and technical consultation of Shanghai EV battery testing laboratory. Mr. Gregg Tiemann, Chief Executive of Intertek Commercial & Electrical division, said in addition to North America and Shanghai, Intertek is launching a professional battery testing laboratory in Germany with the same capabilities solidifying a global network of Intertek EV testing.
The Intertek Shanghai EV lab has invested in the three core technologies that will determine the overall path of development for this industry. Capabilities include cell, module, and full pack testing services for electric vehicle batteries. This laboratory will become the country's first comprehensive solution battery pack-level verification testing site. In addition, the EV lab capabilities will expand to include, battery pack durability and endurance testing services in the second half of the year.
Intertek Shanghai Automotive Testing Laboratory was established in 2005. This laboratory is China's first EMC laboratory recognized by the Big Three U.S. automakers, providing the industry with a full range of testing and consulting solutions. The new Shanghai EV laboratory will continue to expand its capacity in line with industry growth.
"We will offer customers more than just verification in the future", stated Mr. Frank Pan, President of Intertek Commercial & Electrical Asia Pacific. "In addition to providing customers with professional quality reports, we will also put more effort into helping enterprises make technological breakthroughs to truly become their strategic partners; ultimately, this is changing the way the automotive market must do business and how manufacturers must have local access to an emerging global market as quickly as possible."
Intertek’s ongoing investment in its global service network for energy efficient automotive technologies supports the Company’s mission to provide customer-oriented services that are optimally aligned to supply the growing global demand. Intertek continues to play a key role in helping the automotive industry see the big picture of their operations, reducing costs, improving productivity while ensuring energy efficiency and higher-performing vehicles that further enhance and protect environmental conditions.
