Intertek recognized for Cost of Cycling expertise

Sunnyvale, CA – Intertek, a leading quality solutions provider to industries worldwide, announced that its USA-based Asset Integrity Management (AIM) Engineering Services group was recognized for its Cost of Cycling expertise.
The Utility Variable-Generation Integration Group (UVIG) announced the recipients of its 2013 Annual Achievement Awards, and honorees included Steve Lefton, Power Project Manager, Intertek Engineering Services. Mr. Lefton brings over 40 years of experience working on power-related projects around the world.
UVIG serves as a comprehensive information resource and support for utilities, power generating companies, and independent operators. This group is a forum and collective virtual knowledge base in which participants can exchange information on the issues most relevant to wind and solar plant owners and operators.
UVIG President Henry Durrwachter presented the awards at a reception during its 2013 Spring Technical Workshop and Annual Meeting held April 3-4 in Charleston, SC.
The citation for the award to Steve Lefton notes his “outstanding contributions to determining the impact of cycling operation due to wind and solar generation on operation and maintenance cost and emissions of coal and natural gas plants in the Western Wind and Solar Integration Study (WWSIS).”

Mr. Lefton’s engineering team is comprised of engineers who have conducted Cost of Cycling projects around the world in over 400 power plants resulting in utilities savings or cost recovery of hundreds of millions of dollars through proper accounting of the plants’ true on/ off and load cycling costs.
