Intertek Acquires Professional Service Industries, Inc. (PSI)
30 Nov 2015
Strategic expansion broadens company’s offerings in building and construction industries
Chicago (November 30, 2015) - Intertek, a leading provider of quality solutions to industries around the world, has completed the acquisition of Professional Service Industries, Inc. (PSI), a leading engineering and testing firm providing integrated quality assurance services across a range of disciplines within the construction market. The acquisition recently gained regulatory approval and the transaction was finalized on November 23, 2015.
This acquisition of PSI further engages Intertek beyond building products testing and certification and solidifies its position in the project section of the construction industry lifecycle. PSI’s capabilities, which include infrastructure, geotechnical, and materials testing, facilities engineering, and environmental assurance, fully complement Intertek’s field and mock-up testing and its building envelope and commissioning services. Together, the combined companies will offer a nationwide testing and assurance service portfolio across the project and building lifecycle, to a broader customer base. The acquisition comes on the heels of Intertek’s purchase of MT Group, a materials testing and specialty construction firm in New York.
“The combination of services that Intertek and PSI can offer is a significant development for the industry,” says Gavin Campbell, Intertek’s Senior Global Vice President of Building & Construction. “We are now fully engaged, supporting both building product manufacturers and building construction developers of commercial, industrial, and residential buildings, as well as infrastructure projects such highways and railroads, allowing us to get closer to customers, and diversifying our testing and assurance service portfolio across the building product and project lifecycle.”
“Joining the Intertek family is a huge development for PSI, our customers, and our industry,” adds Murray Savage, CEO of PSI. “By leveraging Intertek’s domestic and global foot print, its field testing, and building commissioning services, we are able to offer a more complete solution to the industry. Our customers will be able to gain immediate benefit from the extended service offerings as we work to find new ways to partner with them.”
PSI has leading positions in the U.S. commercial and civil construction markets, offering a broad range of testing and assurance services related to the construction of non-residential building and non-building structures. Headquartered in Oakbrook Terrace, Ill., and founded in 1961, PSI has approximately 2,400 employees and has been providing business and industry with objective, accurate and useful information for more than 50 years.
