Intertek to Exhibit at the Electrical and Electronic Equipment and the Environment Conference
06 Oct 2017
Intertek, a leading Total Quality Assurance provider to industries worldwide, will be exhibiting at the Electrical and Electronic Equipment and the Environment Conference taking place in London, UK from November 1-2, 2017.
The EEE Conference will bring together leading names in the environmental compliance and legislation sectors. Attendees will have the opportunity to network with industry peers; learn about the latest developments in legislation, policy, enforcement, standards and best practices, and learn from industry case studies.
This year's conference will cover all the key requirements for placing hardware products on the market. Some of the topics that will be discussed include:
- Taking responsibility for your
supply chain – including conflict minerals - Substance restrictions and
obsolescence (RoHS, REACH, CLP, POPs, etc.) - Circular economy (eco-design
and energy labelling, sustainability, waste/WEEE) - Developments in the EU, US and
China – including Brexit and Trump effects
There is a growing range of chemical and product regulations to address the use of restricted substances. Environmental product regulations and their effect on all stages of an electrical products’ lifecycle (raw materials, design, usage, and end-of-life), directly impact the environmental compliance and legislation sector, in addition to stakeholders in the electrical and electronics industry. Businesses and consumers must comply with these product regulations due to the required industry standards, government regulations, regional and national laws, and directives for continued sales of electronics and electrical equipment in the applicable country. Some examples include regulations such as the Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH), electronics industry directives such as the Restrictions of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) and the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE), as well as TSCA mandates under the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). In turn, these industry standards are changing how products are manufactured and how materials data is being managed and tracked in the supply chain.
In many jurisdictions, companies wishing to sell electrical and electronic equipment must comply with the legislation for electrical and electronic equipment (EEE), including the WEEE and RoHS Directives. RoHS works in conjunction with the EU WEEE Directive by reducing the amount of hazardous chemicals used in production, therefore reducing the amount of toxic waste produced by electronics at end-of-life. These Directives are implemented in EU Member States countries by national WEEE and RoHS regulations – the guidelines for implementing these Directives differ significantly depending on the country. Companies that sell applicable EEE, or sells to resellers, distributors or wholesalers exporting to these countries, may be impacted if they utilize any of the restricted substances stated under RoHS.
