The EU waste policy aims to contribute to the circular economy by extracting high-quality resources from waste as much as possible. Innovation in recycling presents both challenges and opportunities in polymer material development in order to meet the European Union's recycling targets. laboratory testing and analyses can help identify and overcome technical and chemical obstacles, such as the complexity of polymer compositions and the limited possibilities for reprocessing. Innovations aimed at improving the recyclability of polymers, such as new designs for recycling, the use of sustainable raw materials, and chemical recycling technologies can also benefit from insight into materials’ quality and properties. In this talk we will emphasise the importance of collaboration between industry, science, and policymakers to achieve recycling targets and highlight key materials development support from expert partners, such as Intertek, can provide to help stakeholders transition to a circular economy.
