Vol. 835 | 24 Jun 2015

On April 25, 2015, Turkey’s Ministry of Customs and Trade updated the Textile Labeling and Fiber Composition of Textile Products regulation.

With this update, the regulation is now aligned with the European Regulation 1007/2011. The main difference between the updated regulation and the previous one is the labeling requirement for any non-textile part of animal origin (pearl, real fur, leather collar or trim, feather ornament or bone accessories) that may be included in a product. Any use of animal originated material is to be clearly stated on textile product labels,   with the wording as “Contains non-textile parts of animal origin” (Article 13).

The products that are going to be placed on the market after 1 January 2016 should be labeled according to Article 13. Other updates will be effective from the date of publication.

Market supervision and control of the products included in the scope of this regulation will be handled by the Ministry according to the provision of Market Surveillance and Control Regulation of the Ministry of Customs and Trade dated 12/6/2014 Official Gazette No. 29028. In case the provision of regulation is not met, the supplier will be given correction period according to the 11th article of Market Surveillance and Control Regulation of the Ministry of Customs and Trade. If the correction cannot be made within the given period of time, the administrative penalty described on 12th article of the Law No 4703 will be enforced.
