Brazil Approves Quality Technical Regulation for Children’s Cots

On 1 February 2016, Brazil’s National Institute of Metrology, Quality and Technology (INMETRO) published Ordinance No. 53/2016 to approve the Quality Technical Regulation for children's cots, including tailor-made, folding, convertible – when in cradle position – balance and swinging cots.

Children’s cots must be registered with INMETRO. This is a precondition to apply for the Conformity Identification Mark and for its availability in the domestic market.

From August 2017, only the children’s cots in compliance with Ordinance No. 53/2016 can be manufactured or imported.

From February 2019, the previous Ordinance No. 269/2011 and its amendment Ordinance No 594/2013 and 243/2015 will be revoked. Only children’s cots that comply with Ordinance No. 53/2016 can be sold.
