The Commonwealth of Australia published Consumer Goods (Baby Bath Aids) Safety Standard 2017. From 27 Oct 2018, baby bath aids shall comply with the standard.

Below are highlights of the standard:

The baby bath aid shall have a warning statement in the following form:

Vol 1000 - Australia Baby Bath Aids

The warning statement shall:

  1. be fixed permanently onto the baby bath aid; and
  2. be located on the baby bath aid in a conspicuous place; and
  3. be clearly visible when a baby is in the bath aid.

The packaging of baby bath aids shall display the same warning statement conspicuously, unless the packaging is colourless and transparent; and the warning statement on the product is clearly legible through the packaging.

In the transition period before 27 Oct 2018, baby bath aids may comply with either:

  • Consumer Goods (Baby Bath Aids) Safety Standard 2017; or
  • Trade Practices (Consumer Product Safety Standard) (Baby Bath Aids) Regulations 2005

After 27 Oct 2018, Trade Practices (Consumer Product Safety Standard) (Baby Bath Aids) Regulations 2005 will be repealed and only the new standard will be in effect.
