On 3 April 2017, the Ministry of Health (MOH) Malaysia approved to amend Food Regulations 1985 requirements for ceramic ware intended to be used in preparation, packaging, storage, delivery or exposure of food for human consumption. The new requirements shall be effective from 15 April 2017.

  • The cadmium release limits for ceramic hollowware in the Thirteenth Schedule of the Food Regulations 1985 is amended:

Type of ceramic ware

Small hollowware

(Internal depth > 25 mm and capacity < 1.1 l)

≤ 0.20

≤ 0.5

Large hollowware

(Internal depth > 25 mm and capacity ≥ 1.1 l)

≤ 0.20

≤ 0.25

  • Moreover, the test method of the requirements for ceramic ware is changed from MS 1817 to MS ISO 6486-1
