In June, the Shanxi Administration of Quality supervision launched the special product quality supervision for towels, bath towels, pillowcases and sheets.

As a result of the inspection for towels the failure rate was 36.4%; for bath towels the failure rate was 45.8%; for pillowcases the failure rate was 33.8% and for sheets the failure rate was 36%.

Primary failed item: pH value

Children’s Wear

In June, the Hunan Administration of Quality supervision, Shanghai Administration of Quality supervision, Shanghai CIQ (Konggang Branch) launched a special product quality supervision and inspection for children’s wear.

This spot check was conducted according GB 5296.4-2012 "Instruction for use of products of consumer interest," GB 18401 "National general safety technical code for textile products" and GB 31701 “Safety technical code for infants and children textile products.”

Results: the Shanghai Administration of Quality supervision inspected 13 batches from 4 brands and sent for further tests; the Shanghai CIQ (Konggang Branch) found one brand’s products to contain phthalates.

Primary failed items: safety requirements of cords and drawstrings, fiber content, permanent label and phthalates

Undergarments

In June of 2017, AQSIQ launched an inspection for undergarments.

For knitted women’s undergarments, AQSIQ inspected 81 batches from 81 enterprises in 10 provinces and found out 2 batches did not conform; for knitted undergarments, AQSIQ inspected 120 batches from 120 enterprises in 11 provinces and found 8 batches did not conform.

Primary failed items: fiber content, pH value and warmth retention rate

Footwear

In June, the Guangdong Administration of Quality supervision launched a special product quality supervision and inspection for footwear.

This spot check was conducted according to QB/T 1002-2005 “Leather Shoes,” GB 20400-2006 “Leather and fur—limits of harmful matter,” GB/T 22756- 2017 “Leather Sandals” and GB 28011-2011 “Shanks.” 

The Guangdong Administration of Quality supervision checked 130 batches from 89 enterprises and found that 14 batches from 13 enterprises did not conform, resulting in a failure rate of 10.8%. 

Primary failed items: flexing, colorfastness to rubbing of lining and insock, sole bond of outsole and midsole, shank length and size, banned Azo dyestuff and formaldehyde.

Textiles & Apparel

In June, the Liaoning Administration of Quality supervision, Guangdong Administration of Quality supervision, Fujian Administration of Quality supervision and Shanxi Administration of Quality supervision launched a special product quality supervision and inspection for the textiles and apparel.

This spot check was conducted according GB 5296.4-2012 "Instruction for use of products of consumer interest," GB 18401 "National general safety technical code for textile products" and GB 31701 “Safety technical code for infants and children textile products.”

As a result, the Liaoning Administration of Quality supervision checked 35 batches from 34 enterprises and found that 5 batches from 5 enterprises failed. The Guangdong Administration of Quality supervision checked 150 batches from 113 enterprises and found that 25 batches failed. The Shanxi Administration of Quality supervision inspection resulted in a failure rate of 26.7%.

Primary failed items: colorfastness to water, colorfastness to perspiration, colorfastness to rubbing, colorfastness to dry cleaning, colorfastness to washing, formaldehyde and fiber content.
