The Ministry of Trade of Turkey has approved an amendment to the Toy Safety Regulation under Official Journal No. 30988. The amendment aligns the requirements of chromium (VI), lead, bisphenol A and phenol with the equivalent requirements in EU Toy Safety Directive 2009/48/EC.

The changes are summarized below:

  1. The migration of chromium (VI) and lead shall be amended as follows: (effective 24 December 2020)

  2. The migration limit of bisphenol A shall be lowered to 0.04 mg/l: (effective 24 December 2020)

    • 5 mg/l (migration limit) in polymeric materials in accordance with the methods laid down in TS EN 71-10 and TS EN 71-11.
    • 10 mg/kg (content limit) as a preservative in accordance with the methods laid down in TS EN 71-10 and TS EN 71-11.
  4. The word “aquatic toy” mentioned in the provisions for toys intended for children under 36 months or mouthable toys shall be amended to “aqueous toy,” which means a toy containing water, such as hobby paints, finger paints, glass paints, adhesives and soap bubbles.
