U.S. – AATCC Publishes Method 212 for Evaluating Fiber Fragment Release During Home Laundering of Textile Products
Vol. 1268 | 02 Sep 2021
The American Association of Textiles Chemists and Colorists (AATCC) recently published TM 212 Test Method for Fiber Fragment Release During Home Laundering. This is the first global consensus standard published to assess fiber fragment release during home laundering.
The test method defines the term “fiber fragment” and “microfiber” as these terms are synonymous but carry distinct meanings; and uses accelerated laundering testing machine, with or without use of detergent, to quantify fiber fragment release.
Publication of this method will help in standardizing evaluation procedures and provide a benchmarking tool for brands and retailers to assess the fiber fragment release of various materials, eventually helping make smarter and sustainable material choices for designers.
A copy of the standard can be purchased from AATCC at: https://members.aatcc.org/store/tm212/3573/
