The European Commission has issued Commission Directive (EU) 2021/903 to approve the amendment regarding specific limit values for aniline in certain toys to Toy Directive 2009/48/EC.

New requirements on aniline are added in Appendix C to Annex II, as follows:

  • 10 mg/kg as free aniline in finger paints
  • 30 mg/kg after reductive cleavage in finger paints

The new requirements will be applied by Member States from 5 December 2022.

Note: Appendix C of Annex II defines specific limit values for chemicals used in toys intended for use by children under 36 months, or in other toys intended to be placed in the mouth.
