Fact Sheet: IEC 60335-1 Edition 6: General requirements for safety of household and similar electrical appliances

The IEC 60335 standard series deals with the safety of electrical appliances for household and similar purposes. With significant changes to appliances, IoT (Internet of Things), and the development of smart home systems which can be programmed and/or remotely controlled, safety requirements have been reassessed to ensure these products can be safely used as the technologies evolve and the applications become more complex.

Edition 6 of the general part 1, published in 2020 addresses these considerations. Intertek’s IEC 60335-1 Edition 6 Fact Sheet assists manufacturers with awareness and the impact the changes may have on their products.
